PRESIDENTIAL MEMORIZATION

Grade Level: 3rd grade

Subject area: History

Lesson Title: Learning all 44 Presidents of the United States

Time required to present lesson: 30 minutes

Objective of the lesson: The objective of this lesson is for students to learn and memorize all 44 presidents and the order they come in.

Learning outcome: Students will learn how to search the internet to find important information and be able to do research for future projects.

Curriculum goals: The curriculum goals will be different from previous assignments. This one will be and give them knowledge of a web based search engine and research sites that they will access and have to use to research each President.

Activities: In this activity the kids would choose between classmates for a partner. Each group is going to be responsible for a project that states the most interesting fact about each president that they could find. And put together a timeline of Presidents who have been office since George Washington. The timeline will help them with the order and the random fact about each President will help them remember something about each President.  

Use of technology by the teacher: I will use projector that is connected to my computer to demonstrate great web site search engines. I will limit each student to 3 web site search engines. I will show them my timeline as an example and share with them the fact I found interesting about each President and leave it out for them the whole time to look off of. On the projector I will demonstrate how I found all my information and show them how to apply that information.

Use of technology by the students: Internet accessibility and the use of web sites to locate information.

Preparation/preliminary activities: I will make sure the internet is connected and also block certain websites and allow only 3 web search engines to work.

Procedure:  After explaining and showing the students my timeline and letting them get on the internet I will assist them but they will work with their partner on the assignment.

Assessment: For this assignment I will be grading the students on how well they work with a partner and the unique facts about the Presidents. Their time spent on the web will factor in their grade as well. Below is a rubric for their scoring out of 50 points:

  1. Derrick, great job on your assignment. I really liked how you incorporated the technologies into your lesson plan. Very creative lesson plan and I'd assume it would be effective with students.
